The Project
Ibitú site layout: BESS and PV plant areas next to an existing substation and 110 kV transmission line.

Site layout

146 hectares of private land with a long-term lease agreed. The BESS occupies approximately 6 hectares adjacent to the existing substation; the PV plant occupies approximately 140 hectares. Grid connection is via the expansion of the existing substation onto the 110 kV transmission line, with basic engineering for the busbar expansion and connection already complete.

Key figures

Battery energy storage system of up to 500 MWh, developed and built as Phase 1. Solar photovoltaic plant of 100 MWp as Phase 2. Connection to the National Electric System (SEN), Chile's main interconnected grid. Project company Ibitú Energía SpA established as owner of the project.

Location

Copiapó commune, Atacama Region, northern Chile.

The site combines world-class solar resource with practical logistics: 20 km from Copiapó Airport (daily flights from Santiago, 1 h 15 min), 36 km from the city of Copiapó, 43 km from the port of Caldera, and 840 km north of Santiago. Land access is direct via Route 5 North and Regional Route C-370.

Copiapó is an established mining-industry hub with suppliers of industrial and construction materials, services, accommodation and banking — reducing construction and operations logistics risk.

Development Status

Completed

  • Project company Ibitú Energía SpA established as owner of the project.
  • Long-term land lease agreed with the landowners; final lease contract to be signed.
  • Basic engineering for the busbar expansion and substation connection complete.
  • Phased development plan defined: BESS first, PV second.

Path to ready-to-build

  • Basic engineering for the BESS plant and its substation connection; review of the substation project.
  • Environmental survey for submission to the environmental authorities, to confirm that an environmental declaration (DIA) is not required.
  • Substation expansion and grid-connection authorisation, for submission to the grid administrator (CEN).
  • Sectoral, local and municipal permits, easements and concessions.
  • Community relations process, executed from the beginning of development.
Partners & Structure

A partnership of local development and senior execution.

Ibitú is developed by GT4 Energía and Tambo3, with Endura Energy providing senior technical and commercial development support. The project is held in a dedicated project company, Ibitú Energía SpA, structured to be owned by its equity investors at financing, with the development partners retaining development roles and aligned minority participation.

This structure mirrors Endura's broader development model: each project in a separate project company, funded at project level, with development discipline and owner-side engineering judgement applied from the first day.
